introduction
i like to sit with a single topic for a long time in all aspect of life until I find an answer close to ground truth. i like to wake up and think about it. talk to everyone about it. debate about it. write about it. stand by it. be proud of it. i fail to do this when: 1) i misframe the topic which then I feel like i'm "bouncing around" and "all over the place" 2) the environment distracts me from my internal diagloue. In solution: 1) ask the right question — reframe the topic to be something I can latch on to. 2) create an environment that minimizes external distractions 3) create a headspace that minimizes internal distractionsask the right question — reframe the topic to be something I can latch on to.
find the right questionincrease your standard - you've been average for so damn long you don't know how to think of the right question. think bigger. think longer. think harder.
create an environment that minimizes external distractions.
be in an environment that is okay to be disorganized in the process.lack of communication skills can be compensated by quantity of communication skills.
then talk like you are in an environment where it's okay to make mistake - to be hated. to be loved. don't fear. get the feedback.
talk like that, too. here's how smart people talk: they frame the gap as a world problem. “the world lacks outdoor ptz cameras; we still want to serve.” “the world keeps placing old guys who only do what they understand.” say it as you see it. don’t sand the edges to be liked. not to provoke— to be precise. not persuading— publishing. ship the thought, let the feedback find you, then update the model.
standards
• describe reality without euphemism.
• name constraints and tradeoffs explicitly.
• propose an experiment over a debate.
• measure results and change your mind in public.
creating a headspace that minimizes internal distractions
Be okay losing it all. Care about your principles."I'm not worried about that. If they say It's better to change me I will leave without compensation. I rely so much in my confidence and the way I do my job. The biggest pain is to lose games and not give something to the fans."
"be disorganized, agentic, don't give af."
quotes
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.”
